One of Istanbul’s most renowned plastic surgeons, M.D. Prof. Mehmet Veli Karaaltin, established and runs Hair Acibadem Taksim Istanbul, a world-class worldwide hair transplant and hair treatment clinic. Clinicians at the Private Acibadem Taksim Hospital, one of the city’s most famous A-Class private hospitals, are all board-certified, academically educated, and highly skilled in their fields of specialization. He was born in the Iraqi city of “Kirkuk” in 1972. During his first year of his life in the “United States of America,” he and his family were forced to relocate. From 1976 through 1988, Dr. Karaaltn attended school in West Lafayette, Indiana, where he completed his primary and secondary education, and then in Orange County, California.
Dr. Karaaltn graduated from Istanbul University’s Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty, English Learning Branch, in 1990 with a medical degree from the university. After six years of training at Hacettepe University in Ankara, he was awarded the Turkish Board for Plastic Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery by the Turkish National Examination for Medical Specialization Acquisition. It was in 2012 that Dr. Karaaltn passed the examinations and all other conditions to become a Fellow of the European Board of Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery (E.B.O.P.R.A.S).
He was a faculty member at both the Bezmialem University and the University of Acbadem, where he taught plastic surgery to hundreds of medical students. A large number of young plastic surgeons have gone on to become leaders in their disciplines thanks to his guidance and advice. “Advanced Aesthetic Rhinoplasty: Art Science and New Clinical Techniques” is a textbook that Dr. Karaaltn co-edited and co-authored a chapter on in the subject of aesthetic nose surgery. Among his other innovations were methods for shaping the dorsum of the nose after surgery.
ISAPS (International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons) insurance covers all of Dr. Karaaltn’s cosmetic operations, no matter where they are performed. As a pioneer in the field of microvascular free flaps, nerve transfers, brachial paralysis, and tissue transfer, he is widely recognized. For the treatment of facial paralysis, Karaaltn developed and popularized a ground-breaking muscle transfer procedure. When the world’s third full face transplantation and the first quadruple transplantation were attempted, he was a member of “The Hacettepe Team.” As a result, he has given hundreds of talks at international microsurgery events and has been invited to appear as a keynote speaker at major international meetings.
Doctor Karaaltn has been working in Cellular and Regenerative Medicine for the past five years. Cell spray and breast restoration have been used successfully on hundreds of diabetic wounds. Cellular therapy was a key component of his ground-breaking “facial anti-aging” Four-Corner approach. The “Best Experimental Paper” in Plastic Reconstructive Surgery for calendar 2016 was awarded to Dr. Karaaltn’s scientific team, which may be his most remarkable achievement to date. Microvascular lymph node transfer for lymphatic blockage and multi-level vascularized lymph node transfer are two of his current research interests. The “3D Rhinoplasty” procedure uses 3D scanning and printing technology to create an exact replica of the nose during surgery, putting the technique above that of simulation.
